The COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies around the world to re-think how they operate, particularly when it comes to remote work. Video production companies, in particular, have had to get creative in order to continue producing high-quality content while working remotely. We wanted to tell you our story, and how we successfully adapted to a remote-first approach.

First off, heres a short intro of our company: Polar is a video production company that was founded by a group of passionate storytellers and creatives who are dedicated to bringing ideas to life through visual media. Today we are a full-service production company that works with a wide variety of creative projects, film development and advertising.

Prior to the pandemic, we had offices in Los Angeles and focused mainly on the Southern California area. We produced video content for a range of clients, including tech startups, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies. But when the pandemic hit, We quickly realized that we would need to adapt in order to continue producing video content for our clients.

We adapted a remote-first approach:

Remote-first refers to a work model where the majority of employees work remotely, and the company's systems, processes, and culture are designed to support remote work as the default mode of operation. For instance, this meant that instead of keeping our physical office as the primary place of work, we started working from home or other remote locations. We quickly put the necessary infrastructure, communication tools, and guidelines in place to ensure that everything ran smoothly, that we could collaborate effectively and stay productive.

One of the benefits of the remote-first approach is that it allowed us to operate in the U.S and Europe simultaneously. Since the core team at Polar and our employees were working from home, there was no need for them to be physically present in the office. This meant that employees in the U.S and Europe could collaborate on projects in real-time, without any delays or time-zone issues. We set this in routine and have since had several short deadlines met due to this fact.

Another benefit of the remote-first approach is that it allowed us at Polar to expand our talent pool beyond their local areas. With remote work, we were able to hire employees from anywhere in the world, as long as they had the necessary skills and equipment to work remotely. We created a world-wide consultant pool with talents in different areas and expertise that has since become This comes in handy when we need a pick-up shot n a remote part of the world, a sequence for one of our ”Sustainable Content” clients etc etc. The list goes on.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we at Polar were able to adapt quickly to a remote-first approach and continue producing high-quality video content for our clients. The company has since decided to continue with the remote-first approach even after the pandemic is over, as it has proven to be an effective way to operate and has opened up new possibilities for the company.
